My main goals for 2014 are:
- GET ORGANISED - yes, that means sorting through all the crap, chucking lots out, setting up systems and structures and maintaining them with simplicity and self-discipline.
- LOOK AFTER MYSELF: regular exercise, healthy eating, having fun and making time to relax rather than wearing myself out...
- DO MORE ART and creativity - just because I want to, and essentially to enjoy myself - not just all 'work' related...
PERSONAL:
- work on illustrations for my 3 x CHILDREN'S STORIES - and take steps toward publishing...- do more PRINTING for fun - screen-printing and stamp/potato printing.
- learn to 'SWITCH-OFF' better from work and all my ideas.. live more in the moment, and just have fun.
A LITTLE CREATIVE:
- shift the focus from the art classes onto other areas of the business. This may be a gradual process, but definitely involves me pulling-back my own input from the classes a lot.- get professional marketing advice
- write up a proper business-plan to share with others and get more professional input as I move forward...
- Get my website and online store functioning properly and start marketing it a LOT more!
- use the BLOG more regularly and effectively.
- Develop my own art kits and products: Party-Packs, Cafe-kits, coloring books etc, art easels, 'gourmet' art timber trays... (need to think up a proper 'name' for these!)
- consolidate all my lesson-plan content and intellectual property - fixing things up, organizing and getting ready to use in the next stages of growing my business...
- 'go with the flow' more with employing other art teachers... - support them, but aim towards them becoming more independent under my structure - rather than me having to DO too much...
- employ someone (Mel) for admin/communication and all the 'behind the scenes' work - aim towards getting to the stage where my business can operate quite well without me - and be profitable, so that I can then focus on more of the 'NEW' and FUN stuff! - curriculum development, product development, doing the fun workshops etc.
As we all know, it has been VERY hard for me to take the actions to step away from my classes... but I think I am finally getting much closer to it... I have recently been contacted by the Caloundra Regional Gallery to work with them on their children's art programs - we are just at the early stage of negotiation/communication - but if it pans out well - I think I can quite happily work more with them, and less on ALC's classes - but more on ALC website/products and selling...
I am pretty sure I am about to drop the Kindy-Art classes... and also the School-Holiday workshops in the current way that I have been offering them... The reality is that I CAN'T do it all... and I have to think and ACT smarter... The Birthday Parties and occassional workshops that PAY me better are what I should focus on... the time has come for me to 'pick-and-choose' more. All that being said - I am wanting our afterschool classes and other classes to continue - but being run by other teachers who I employ and support....
Getting there...
I CAN DO IT.
